Matthew Flavel
Alsherjargothi Matthew Flavel has been successfully leading the Asatru Folk Assembly through it's brightest era to date since Midsummer 2016. Alsherjargothi Flavel has triumphantly opened 2 hofs under his leadership: Thorshof in North Carolina and Baldrshof in Minnesota. Along with Odinshof in California, these temples stand as the first of their kind dedicated to the Aesir in North America. With him at helm, the AFA has boasted not only drastic increase in membership numbers, but also the number and quality of national events throughout the United States and Europe, giving Folkish Asatruar opportunities to gather in worship of their gods and fellowship with communities where there had been none before.
Alsherjargothi Flavel was chosen directly by AFA Founder Stephen McNallen as his successor to this prominent position.
As a young boy in Alaska, Alsherjargothi Flavel felt the strong, spiritual need to find both divine and personal truth. In 2001, he finally found his calling and way home to the Aesir, the native gods and goddesses of Northern Europe.
Alsherjargothi Flavel joined the AFA and soon began hosting local events and meetups for his Folk in Alaska. With the success of his region blossoming, Alsherjargothi joined the ranks of regional AFA Folkbuilders in 2009, and was promoted to Folkbuilder Coordinator in (2012???). Alsherjargothi took the next step of dedication to his gods and church in 2012, being legally ordained as a Gothi of the Asatru Folk Assembly. With this new role, he took the heavy and fulfilling responsibility for the spiritual needs, empowerment, and education of members of his church.
The Alsherjargothi currently resides in Nevada with his lovely wife and daughter.
